The ET-302 Memorial Inaugurated in Ethiopia

Gimbichu, Ethiopia – The ET-302 Memorial, a powerful tribute to the 157 lives lost in the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 tragedy, was officially inaugurated last month. Built by Elmi Construction, the memorial stands as a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s architectural and emotional landscape. A project where construction met compassion, precision, and purpose.

Located at the exact site of the crash, the 40,000-square-meter memorial was designed by Alebel Desta Consulting Architects and Engineers and brought to life by Elmi Construction’s experienced team. Selected for our reputation in delivering high-quality, culturally responsive infrastructure, we were proud to be entrusted with such a sensitive and meaningful assignment.

The memorial leads visitors through a symbolic journey that mirrors the flight’s final six minutes and 44 seconds. Along the way, four red-tinted monolithic structures, representing the continents affected – rise from the land. Etched aluminum plaques shaped like airplane windows carry the names of each victim, providing moments of personal reflection and connection.

From site preparation to structural execution, Elmi Construction delivered the memorial’s intricate components with precision. This included the integration of sustainable systems such as green roofs, solar energy, and water harvesting infrastructure. The project also involved the planting of over 120,000 native species, carefully coordinated to reflect the environmental and cultural sensitivity of the site.

As a company committed to delivering more than just buildings, Elmi Construction sees the ET-302 Memorial as a defining example of how construction can carry cultural, environmental, and emotional significance.

We are honored to have contributed to a national space of remembrance and reflection, and proud to see this landmark project now open to the public.
